Ready to Grow

Just over two years ago I finally made an appointment for a physical after avoiding the doctor for almost five years.  I was ready to seek help for my migraines again after numerous negative experiences with medication and neurologists who let my concerns fall on deaf ears.  This time my doctor listened to me because I insisted on being heard and this time I considered my symptoms might be more than physical.  I took myself to see a therapist who confirmed my theory that the migraines are related to past, unprocessed trauma. The old me would have never stepped foot into a therapists office. Instead, I would have downed more pills from the doctor so I could keep working and continuing my path to destruction.  I once thought losing my job would destroy my life but instead it was the catalyst for a new phase in my life.

  1. I have suffered from chronic migraines for almost 30 years now. I’ve been to neurologist who found nothing as well, and they suggested that they felt it was stress-related, or related to something of than within my brain. Well, they were right on both counts. Migraines are hell, and I’m sorry you have to deal with them.

    1. I have a family history or migraines and I know there is a genetic component sometimes. My migraines increased in number and intensity during my marriage and then again during the divorce so I know there are other factors that make them worse too. Right now, I have substantial relief with Botox treatments but I know they don’t work for everyone. I hope you find some relief soon.


  2. I don’t suffer from migraines, but I have wondered if other physical pain I suffer at times may be deeper and caused from emotions etc. I am glad you demanded the help and therapy you needed. 🙂 Sometimes it is unfortunate but we have to demand to be heard.

  3. I suffer from migraines as well as anxiety and girl, good for you for taking control. You can get through this and get answers and help. I’m currently trying meditation and acupuncture and its going really well for me – if you haven’t already, maybe try that? Hang in there!

    1. Thank you Amberlee and I’m sorry you suffer with migraines and axiety. I’ve tried meditation and something similar to acupuncture called dry needling. Both were helpful, but it was the Botox that made a significant improvement for migraines.

  4. I do believe that our emotional state can influence our physical state. That doesn’t mean we’re making it up or it’s “all in our head”. Just that instead of a physical trauma leading to pain, it’s an emotional/mental one. I hope that the therapy helps your migraines.
